Since last summer, Outright Libertarians has sent its questionnaire to candidates seeking the Libertarian Party’s Presidential Nomination. With less than two weeks remaining before the party’s Nominating Convention in Orlando, we are publishing what is likely the last Libertarian Presidential candidate profile of this election season. While this candidate is the last to participate in our questionnaire, he is certainly not the least buzz-worthy candidate.
Darryl W. Perry, age 38, is an award winning author, publisher, radio/TV host, advocate and activist for peace and liberty. His running mate for the Libertarian Party nomination is Will Coley, an openly Muslim activist and advocate for peace and liberty. Perry hosts the daily newscast FPPradioNews, the podcast Peace, Love, Liberty Radio, the weekly podcast FPP Freedom Minute, and is a regular host onFree Talk Live. Perry is also the Owner/Managing Editor of Free Press Publications, a business he started with the purpose of “ensuring a free press for the freedom movement”, by republishing several libertarian and anarchist books.
Despite his seemingly long-shot status at receiving the nomination, Perry has distinguished himself from other campaigns by claiming to represent “the libertarian wing of the Libertarian Party” and has garnered a significant following among more radical adherents of The Libertarian Party’s platform. Perry has gone on record stating that the U.S. Constitution is not compatible with Libertarian principles and that the federal government should be abolished. He believes that all taxation is theft, a mantra that has reached meme-like status in libertarian circles. Perry’s message of radical self-ownership has paid off with several intra-party endorsements and state straw-poll victories. His achievements thus far have earned him a solid contingency for victory on the convention floor.
It comes as no surprise that Perry extends his ideology of radical self-ownership to LGBTQ and sexual freedom issues. He has picked up an endorsement from The Libertarian Party Sex Caucus, which believes “that people have the right to private choice in consensual sexual activity.” And “supports the repeal of existing laws and policies which are intended to condemn, affirm, encourage, or deny sexual lifestyles or any set of attitudes about such lifestyles.” On our questionnaire, Perry rejects the government’s authority to regulate marriage, bathroom usage, discrimination, religious liberty, HIV policy, refugee policy, sex-based transactions, and more. He believes in the power of markets and private charity to aid LGBTQ+ people where they at a disadvantage. He would pardon all federal offenders of victimless crimes such as sex work and drug usage. In addition, he says that “government agents should be subject to civil and criminal liability” for the abuses suffered by prison inmates.
In conclusion, we at Outright Libertarians can confidently say that Darryl Perry received the highest of marks on our questionnaire. He is not only a principled defender of LGBTQ rights, but also a defender of the INDIVIDUAL rights at stake among all communities under threat of government tyranny.
