Throwback Thursday: Veterans Party of America selects its first presidential ticket

Throwback Thursday: For today’s Throwback Thursday segment, ATPR is travelling back ten months in the past to August 19th, 2015. On that day, the Veterans Party of America, a centrist political party focused on veterans issues, officially announced in a YouTube video that the party had selected its first ever presidential ticket: Chris Keniston for president and Deacon Taylor for vice president. The announcement was made with Mount Rushmore as a backdrop.

The acceptance speeches of Keniston and Taylor were released on Keniston’s official campaign website.

The modern day Veterans Party of America was founded on December 19th, 2013 and is currently headquartered in Moses Lake, Washington. The party touts having over 48,000 “likes” on its Facebook page and says it has an active party chapter in all fifty states. According to Wikipedia, the Veterans Party of America currently has presidential ballot access in Mississippi. On its website, the party lists two U.S. Senate candidates, four candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, and several other candidates for state legislatures as well as local offices. The party currently has at least one member elected to office: Michael R. Hart, the mayor of Commerce, Oklahoma, who was reelected to his office in April 2015.

It is not a requirement that a person wishing to join the Veterans Party be a veteran him or herself.
