On August 2nd, 2016, the Libertarian Party of New York submitted over 32,617 signatures to place the national presidential ticket of Gary Johnson and William Weld as well as U.S. Senate candidate Alex Merced on the November ballot. The minimum required number of petition signatures in New York is 15,000.

Johnson is expected earn ballot access in all 50 states; currently, the ticket is on the ballot in 39 states for a total access to 433 electoral votes. The Libertarian Party has previously earned 50 state ballot access for its presidential ticket in 1980, 1992, 1996 and nearly repeated the feat in 2000, when despite the fact that the Libertarian Party was technically on the ballot in each state, the Libertarian Party of Arizona ran its own presidential candidate, L. Neil Smith, instead of the national ticket headed by Harry Browne.

Meanwhile, in an email sent out to his supporters today, Merced, the candidate for U.S. Senate, touted that his campaign recently raised $6,000 over a five-day period and has received the endorsement of multi-millionaire investor Jim Rogers.

The Libertarian Party presidential ticket is currently working on securing ballot access in the 11 remaining states: Washington, Minnesota, Iowa, Alabama, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
