On August 6th, 2016, several media outlets, including AmericaBlog.com (for whom John Arsovis wrote an article), reported that the freshly minted Green Party presidential nominee, Jill Stein, had met Russian President Vladimir Putin at an anniversary dinner for the Russian state-owned TV network, RT, in December 2015. Stein was a declared presidential candidate at the time, and according to the media, Stein criticized the U.S.’s human rights record. Away from the dinner, with Moscow’s Red Square as the background, Stein said in a video recording that “we” as Americans:

“need to rein in US exceptionalism, and totally reform and revise our foreign policy so that it is based on international law, human rights and diplomacy.”

Stein added that her fellow countrymen must:

“replace a US policy of domination with a way forward based on respect, collaboration, international law and human rights.”

Stein responded the attacks from the mainstream media in an interview with The Real News Network on August 7th, 2016 (video length: 7 minutes):
